Back in April 2018 Newhaven Town Council and CTLA embarked upon a trial to encourage more people to use buses in and around the town by re-introducing a Sunday bus service around the town estates for the first time in many years. Newhaven Town Council funded four circular journeys per day on Sundays and Bank Holidays to complement the Mondays to Fridays journeys provided by Compass Travel on the Town bus service 145. The aim was to provide opportunities for people without their own cars to get out and about around the town by bus and also to encourage car owners to transfer to the bus, reducing emissions and improving air quality.
Sadly the number of passengers using the service has been very low and despite a small increase in numbers the patronage is still too low to be justifiable in terms of best value, so the decision has been taken to withdraw Sunday bus journeys on service 145 after operation on Sunday 29th March 2020. Both the Town Council and CTLA would like to thank those that used the service over the last couple of years.
The Mondays to Fridays service on route 145 operated by Compass Travel and funded by East Sussex County Council, will continue to operate and remains unchanged.
