Following a change in ESCC Policy in their support for the Dial a Ride services we operate on their behalf the National Concessionary Bus Pass can no longer be accepted on the following services –
Peacehaven Taxi Rider
Lewes and Ringmer Dial a Ride
Please note –
None of the fare income generated from this change will be retained by us; it will only benefit the Council to reduce their subsidy for the service.
Our services were the only ones within the County where the concession was allowed and we are therefore being brought in to line with similar services in Hastings, Rye etc.
The same comment applies to most similar services nationally so we are not being singled out.
We have negotiated with the Council to keep fares as low as possible and to ensure they will be consistent with fares for our existing “paid for” services.
Our services are not primarily aimed at those who could use a scheduled bus service which will still accept the bus pass [after 9.30am].
Our service is unique in providing “door to door” transport plus in most cases assistance to and from the vehicle if required] so comparing our fares to a taxi it still represents excellent value for money.
We are expanding the availability of 3 Towns to include Seaford and so provide Seaford, Newhaven, Peacehaven and Telscombe residents with a better service.
Comment from Derek Barnett General Manager
CTLA is disappointed that the concession to use bus passes has been withdrawn from our dial a ride services.
They provide a very important service for those users who are unable to access other Public Transport and therefore enable users’ access to locations such as Day Centres, surgeries and shops. They play a vital role in preventing social isolation and loneliness.
We acknowledge that the Council needs to make cost savings and will be working with them so that the long term future of the services can be secured.
