CTLA is pleased to be a member of the Campaign To End Loneliness – and has many testimonies from our Travel Club members regarding the reduction in their feelings of isolation. As our population ages, we are seeing an increase in the number of people experiencing chronic and severe loneliness.
Effective interventions by organisations like CTLA are community based, utilise volunteers wherever possible and are extremely good value for the level of investment they receive – self funding in many cases.
Research on interventions that reduce loneliness found they led to: • Lower use of medication, fewer GP visits, lower incidence of falls and reduced risk factors for long term care. •Fewer days in hospital, physician visits and outpatient appointments. •Fewer admissions to nursing homes and later admission.
